Task guides
Close and re-open a month
Step-by-step task guide: Bookings and reports.
- Closing a month (in German: Festschreibung) locks every booking dated in that month against changes. Close only after the month-end check shows no open points.
- Quickest way: in the Month-end check box on Finances, Accounts, use the button named after the month at the bottom, then confirm. It is offered only when every list is empty.
- Other way: open Settings, then Periods. Choose the Month, optionally write a Reason, choose Close month and confirm with Yes, close.
- The list on Periods shows each closed month and whether the tax advisor signed it off or a DATEV export closed it.
- To open a month again, choose Re-open next to it, write the Reason for re-opening (at least three characters) and confirm with Re-open.
- Owners, admins, accountants and the tax advisor can close a month. Only owners and admins can re-open one; for other roles the app shows a refusal.
- Before you confirm, the dialog checks what is still open in the month and lists it: the points of the month-end check and also draft invoices or quotations, bookings not reviewed and payroll runs not closed. It only warns; you can close anyway.
- To close several months at once, choose Close through this month: every open month up to and including that one is closed. Only months that are over qualify, at most 24 months go in one step, and a month that was re-opened on purpose is left open and named. The list shows who closed each month.
- A month that was reported in a VAT return (UStVA) or handed over to DATEV cannot be re-opened: the app answers that a correction is a reversal booking (Storno) plus a new booking in an open month. Only the owner can allow re-opening after a report for a client, with the booking setting reopen policy; it then needs a fresh confirmation code.
