Task guides
Rename or merge bank accounts
Step-by-step task guide: Bank and payments.
- Open Finances, tab Accounts. At the top every bank account is listed with its name (or its IBAN) and its latest balance, or "no balance in the statements". Renaming and merging need the right to change bank accounts (firm owner, firm admin, accountant). For other roles the pencil Rename is not shown, and a merge is refused.
- An account that came from a file without an IBAN is listed as "Account without IBAN" with the source of the file. Only such an account can be merged into another.
- To rename any account: click the pencil Rename, type the Account name (at most 200 characters) and click Save. The name is then used in the account filter on Bank lines, which appears when there is more than one account.
- To merge: on the account without IBAN choose the target under Merge into account, click Merge and confirm with Yes, merge. Only accounts in the same currency are offered. All statements of the account move to the target, the account without IBAN disappears and the balance of the target is recalculated.
- A merge cannot be undone, and the app has no way to split the accounts again. Check the target before you confirm.
- A merge is refused for an account with an IBAN (two IBANs are two real accounts), for two currencies, for an account into itself, and for a cash account (it is kept in the cash book). The reason appears above the list.
- A warning that a statement is missing means an opening balance does not match the previous closing balance of that account. Import the missing statement.
