Agent limits and what to do when it fails

Step-by-step task guide: AI agent.

  • The limits apply to everyone who may use the agent. The numbers here are the standard values; your installation may set them differently.
  • One answer may use 8 steps (tool calls). Each attached file adds 2 steps, for up to 5 files. When the steps run out the agent says it reached its limit and asks you to take it in smaller steps. If it already made proposals, it says first how many were created ("Already done") and they wait in the Inbox. Ask a narrower question, for example one month or one client instead of everything.
  • Speed: 20 questions per minute per person ("Too many requests ... wait a minute"). Each chat handles one question at a time ("still working on a request in this conversation": wait, or click Stop). One person can run 3 chats at once, and a firm 20 at the same time. A message can be 8,000 characters long.
  • Daily budget: a firm has 2,000 model calls a day. When used up you see "This firm's daily AI budget is used up", and the agent answers again the next day. There is also a daily limit for the whole platform ("after midnight (UTC)"). The day changes at midnight UTC: 01:00 in German winter time, 02:00 in summer, 08:00 in China. The manual screens keep working.
  • Connection problems: Connection lost or Reconnecting, then Try again. "The answer was interrupted because the assistant restarted": ask again. "The AI agent is unreachable" or "The AI agent cannot check its limits": wait a moment and try again. "Your session has expired": sign in again. "The document store is starting up": try again in a few seconds. If the fixed answer says the AI is unavailable, use the manual screens.
  • "This conversation could not be saved" means the chat will be gone after a reload; copy what you need. not allowed for your role in a step: your role may not do that part (see the page on who can use the agent). "This record is not available to you, or no longer exists" in the Workspace: the record was removed or is not yours to see.
  • "There is no guide for that yet": the agent found no help page. Ask again with the words the app shows on screen, or use the menu. "The reference does not hold that provision", or a reference marked not verified by a tool: the agent holds only a small set of verified legal provisions (34). Do not rely on that reference; check it with your tax advisor.
